At some time every child will have its struggle being a "selfish shellfish". For our children, we'd act out little plays to encourage 'virtue', using our shells and pebbles as characters. The really ugly shell became the "Selfish Shellfish", and somehow the name stuck. Several years later, during the International Year of Fresh Water, we learnt of the multitudes of children who cannot get a clean drink. With a husband at University, and barely enough to cover expenses, what could I do to help? My answer was to give my first story to finance wells for villages with no fresh water supply. "The Selfish Shellfish" is the first in a series of books.
Two other stories have been written in resonse to the needs of children: "The Bad Tempered Toadfish" with the theme 'overcoming anger'. "Nick and Larry Join the Gym" deals with the struggle of gaining acceptance while overcoming obesity. All of these books are suited for a reading age of 10-12 years. They contain no 'girl-boy' relationships, swearing or supernatural themes; -Just a constructive but light-hearted message Together we can make a difference. I hope you and your children will enjoy reading these books as much as I enjoyed writing them. With blessings, |
